Leon Meyers Retirement Announcement
It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of BuildSense Partner Leon Meyers. After 50 years as a leader in the construction industry, Leon’s legacy is not just the beautiful homes he built or the relationships he cultivated, but in his commitment to create a better community to live and work.
Leon was inducted into the North Carolina Housing Hall of Fame. He is a past President of the Home Builders Association of Durham, Orange, & Chatham Counties and was awarded Builder of the Year, Director of the Year, and Recruiter of the Year.
He has devoted his efforts to numerous charitable organizations to the benefit of our community, most notably through his extensive involvement with Habitat for Humanity of Durham as a board member and sponsor of charitable events. Leon built three Builder's Blitz homes for Habitat families.
Leon partnered with local planning and permitting jurisdictions to ensure safe and effective building codes and practices, delivering a lasting positive influence on our local regulatory building environment.
At BuildSense, Leon mentored and taught our team best practices for client and trade partner relationships, planning, building, scheduling, and project management. Adopting and learning Leon's vast skill set and knowledge base is like drinking from a fire hose.
Leon is a committed and long-term advocate for trade skill training and education. While we cannot celebrate Leon's legacy and career with an in-person event as we had hoped, we can and will honor and appreciate him by endowing a trade education scholarship fund through the HBA of Durham, Orange, & Chatham Counties Foundation, Inc. The L.E. Meyers Scholarship will be awarded annually to a person preparing for a career in the trades. If you are also interested in contributing to this endowment in Leon's honor, please see information below.
Anyone that knows Leon understands that retirement is a misnomer and that he is just moving to the next thing. Leon, we appreciate you, we congratulate you, and we will miss you!
